Carrick Celtic Jewellery produced this cap badge for the surname Russell, which we inherited from them. Russell is a French-Norman name coming from the word 'red', akin to the given name Rufus. As the Normans spread around Europe so did the name, hence branches can be found in Scotland, England and Ireland. The first Scottish Russell is mentioned sometime between 1164 and 1177 and was in Paisley at the time. The chiefly family came to own the barony of Aden, although their arms never seem to have recorded or registered a legal crest. As such there can be no clan crest for the Scottish surname Russell, although a cadet branch of the family, the Russells of Longridge in Lanarkshire, have their crest as a pair of scales balanced on a Sgian Dubh, which are sometimes used.

This badge instead took its crest from the English family and the Earls of Bedford. John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford (1485-1555) adopted the cod-Italian phrase 'Che Sara Sara' - 'whatever will be, will be; which has never been used by anyone in the Mediterranean, instead being an English invention, later popularised by the song.

Made with 100% lead-free pewter, then plated in a high-quality silver finish, giving these the durability of a regular cap badge with the shine of a piece of jewellery. Available in either polished silver or antique finish.

Measures 62mm long and 52mm wide.

Made by our dedicated craftsmen in our own workshops in Glasgow, Scotland.
