The Gowrie Jacket had a brief flourishing in the 1960s, but didn't seem to take off in the way of the established Prince Charlie and Argyll Jackets, or even something like the Montrose. Now enjoying something of a renaissance, this distinctive jacket provides something different while elegant. Can be customised to your shape and tastes.

This stylish, formal evening jacket can be worn to all formal functions where a black tie is requested such as weddings, dances and dinner receptions.

Features:

  • 100% Barathea Wool cloth: pick from a range of colour options.
  • Fine satin lining: chose matching colour to the barathea, thistle jacquered black, or suggest something else using the text box.
  • Your choice of epaulette options
  • Your choice of button options
  • Your choice of cuff options
  • Lapel facing options: please note that silk facings cannot take a buttonhole.
  • Use the text box to suggest any other customisations you might be interested in.
This is a fitted jacket and not available as a stock option. Measuring advice:
  • Chest: measure around the chest at under-arm height, while wearing a shirt or t-shirt, relaxed with your arms by your side.
  • Waist: measure around the waist at roughly naval height - in line with the top of the hips. *This is higher than where your trousers sit*. Let us know if you're wearing your kilt when you do this, as it can sometimes add to your waist or act as a girdle.
  • Sleeve length: find a suit jacket you already own that fits well, and measure from the shoulder seam down to the cuff.
  • Back length: measure from the nape of the neck (where the top of your shirt sits) to an inch-and-a-half below where the top of your kilt sits. We use this, the sleeve length and your height to work out a proportional back length for the jacket. Let us know in the instruction box if you have a specific length this must be made to.
It is recommended, where possible, to take your waist measurement over your kilt. However, if this is not possible we can factor this in.

This item is made to order in our own tailoring workshop in Glasgow, with a standard dispatch time of around 10 weeks.
